VISION | |||||
The best strategy that I have encountered is that design should be for the benefit of all the world's children. This is a concept devised and promoted by Bill McDonough , the visionary architect. How this translates for me is that design should have a lasting value and serve humanity in an effective and elegant way. My main interest is working in the fields of tools and environmental products. I have felt that tools serve humanity and justify their utilisation of resources by virtue of the great amount of useful work that they can accomplish. Environmental products serve by undoing problems which interfere with the flow of nature or impact human health. I am primarily interested in developing products which are in alignment with these values. I believe design or invention should be done with the intention of benefiting others. Unfortunately we often have created products with major negative consequences, often unforeseen at the time of their creation. As such I believe that design needs to be held to a higher standard than previously. Our planetary resources are finite and we should be concerned that we leave some for our posterity. 3 | |||
