Hitchcock Design

Snaplock History 3

Prior to meeting Ed, I was primarily working on two mechanisms to retain the blade. Based on the suggestions Ed provided, I abandoned the toggle mechanism and pursued the cam design. I have provided Ed with all the cams that have been shown on his knives. Ed has made some changes to the basic design. Adding weight and length and width while making the blade the same length. Ed has reduced the number of parts by making the pivot pin part of the blade, with the cams driving the frame inner faces. My design has intermediary pivot pins which allow for a positive lock holding the frame ends closed. This in turn allows the frame to be lighter and made of a more flexible material. Ed has designed a much better belt clip than mine. He also suggested reversing the direction the cam rotated, which is ergonomically superior. Beyond this Ed had very little input on the functional design.
